Hello! I'm Kate.
I'm a Los Angeles-based artist and illustrator who enjoys translating complex stories into imaginative visuals.
I've always been a storyteller. I'm an artist, a writer, and a passionate fan of film and television.
At the University of New Hampshire, I studied painting and drawing to earn by BFA. Now I'm a few courses away from my Masters in English and Creative Writing (Screenwriting).
I use both digital and traditional media, and my visual language combines influences from the dark and surreal imagery in art history, television, and film. I'm most inspired by women with ferocity and curiosity, breaking the mold of what it means to be feminine.
When I'm not creating work for clients, I'm focusing on personal work that incorporates themes related femininity, light/darkness, and connection/disconnection.
I've worked with Cancer Gets LOST and a variety of small businesses, on both design and portrait projects.
Most of my work consists of surreal portraits, which combine figures with other forms in illustrative collages. Unlike some portrait artists, I'm not interested in straightforward photorealism. Instead, I enjoy representing the spirit of my subjects with light, texture, and manipulations that will tell a story and evoke emotion.
